After KGS.... But
first see the photos of Jim then and now .... here
1969 Southampton Uni to do Maths, surrounded by very bright
people and unused to having to work hard to keep up. Survived
one year before dropping out
1970 Met Denise, married and settled down, studied accountancy,
worked in various offices
1975 Left Denise. Qualified as Certified Accountant and set
up private practice. Worked a lot with Rob Hallett. Best friends
with Lesley Waters
1980 Playing rugby for Kingswood. Into serious business (electrical
testing and repair workshop), got 'successful'
1984 Business got too stressful, dropped out to pursue spiritual
life. Travelled to India, learned meditation. Met Clive Perry
and Paul Coxon in Australia
1986 Began 'Camps'. A Camp is typically a week-long event
with 50-500 people doing esoteric things like meditation, astrology,
healing etc. Set up 'Unicorn Camps'. Began training as leader
in Dances of Universal Peace and Sufism
1990 Travelled to lead dances in Russia, Baltic States, Western
Europe, USA and New Zealand. Met Mike Watts in San Francisco
1997 Initiated as Sufi representative. Set up retreat centre
in Lithuania. Working with Sufi groups in UK and abroad
2002 Now these things take my time and make my life: Sufism,
Dances, Astrology, Camps, NLP, composition and recording of mantric
chants
and I'm currently developing a psychometric technique
(called 7 Words) to help people understand their profile of strengths
and weaknesses. I travel a huge amount, rarely in any place for
more than 6 weeks. I have a base in Frome, Somerset and a sort
of home in Lithuania with Jurgita, my partner for 5 years.
My website is www.jamesburgess.com
2002 November Met Andy Warren and Dave Wormald at the Rose
and Crown, Wick for a mini reunion. Great evening of reminiscing
and very comfortable to be with old friends
School memories ..... The Oak, summer dresses, tennis, cross-country
runs, Jimmy Wilde, Howell Evans, Ray Price, the Withywood rugby
fiasco, Clive Perry, Terry Curr, Dinger Bell, Ray Bly, Linda Kidd,
Liz Newell, Rich Sheen, Sharon Gingell, Jean Kelly, Rich Cains,
Jill Oxford, Pam Tate (best teacher for me), Miss Holman (her
great beauty was very distracting when trying to focus on Mathematics),
Francis Hill my excellent Physics teacher - who demonstrated surface
tension by blowing soap bubbles for us. Mike Watts' dad, John,
who befriended us all. Dave Batt, the thinker. Miss Roseveare
the awesome Latin teacher. Jack Silverthorne's recitation of his
filled rolls at the Station for my daily lunch with Rob and the
lads. Happy times, all in all.
